IT support from the person who set it up.

Helpdesk, laptops, email and accounts, backups and patching for businesses across Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and the Lower Mainland. One number to call when something breaks, and I stay on it until it’s closed.

When something breaks

You make one call. I handle the rest, including the bit after it’s fixed.

Every problem ends the same way: fixed, the cause found, and a note in your documentation so the next one is quicker. Problems get closed, not logged and moved on from.

A laptop won’t start

The most common call there is. The aim is to get the person working again first, then sort out the machine.

  1. You

Call or email, from a phone or a colleague’s computer. Tell me whose laptop and what it’s doing.

  2. Jake

I check what I can remotely and work out whether it’s software or hardware.

  3. Jake

I get them working on another machine. Where files live in the cloud and are backed up, nothing is stuck on the broken one.

  4. Jake

I repair or replace it, handle the warranty claim with the manufacturer, and set the new one up.

Someone clicked a bad link

Speed matters more than blame. The sooner I hear about it, the less there is to clean up.

  1. You

Tell me straight away, even if you’re not sure anything happened.

  2. Jake

I reset the password, sign the account out everywhere and check multi-factor sign-in.

  3. Jake

I look for forwarding rules, unusual sign-ins and messages sent from the account.

  4. Jake

I explain in plain language what was exposed, and whether clients or your insurer need to know.

A new hire starts Monday

A first day that starts with a working laptop instead of a morning of waiting for passwords.

  1. You

Send me their name, role and start date.

  2. Jake

I create their accounts, licences, shared mailboxes and access to match the role.

  3. Jake

I set up their laptop, update it and have it ready on their desk.

  4. Jake

I walk them through signing in, multi-factor and where files live on their first morning.

The internet is down

Nobody should be on hold with the provider while the office sits idle. That’s my call to make.

  1. You

Let me know, from a phone if that’s all that’s working.

  2. Jake

I check whether it’s your equipment or the provider’s, remotely where I can.

  3. Jake

I open the fault with the provider and stay on them until the line is back.

  4. Jake

If it keeps happening, I look at the firewall, the wiring or a backup connection.

Email isn’t arriving

Usually a filter, a rule or a setting that quietly changed. I trace it rather than guess.

  1. You

Tell me who’s expecting what, and from whom.

  2. Jake

I trace the message through spam filtering, mailbox rules and your domain’s settings.

  3. Jake

I release anything held and get mail flowing again.

  4. Jake

I fix the cause, like an expired record or an overeager filter, so it doesn’t come back.

What’s covered

The outsourced IT department, line by line.

Managed IT is the day-to-day running of everything your staff rely on. For anything bigger, like a move to the cloud or a new office network, I plan and quote it separately.

Knowing where you stand

A short summary you can actually read.

Every quarter you get a one-page summary: what broke, what I fixed and why, whether backups and updates are where they should be, and what’s coming up that needs a decision. No dashboards to log into.

Remote first

Most fixes happen without anyone leaving their desk.

When it needs hands, like a new workstation, a network fault or an office move, I come on site.

Common questions

Managed IT support, the short answers

01What does managed IT support include?
The day-to-day running of your IT: a helpdesk your staff can call, workstations and laptops, email and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace accounts, backups, patching and updates, setting people up when they join and closing their accounts when they leave, and dealing with your other tech vendors so you don't have to. If something you ask for falls outside that, I'll say so before doing the work.
02How fast do you respond when something breaks?
I respond the same business day. Problems that stop someone from working go ahead of routine requests.
03Who will we actually be talking to?
Me, Jake. I set up and look after your systems myself, so when something breaks, the person who answers already knows your setup and you don't start every call by explaining it from the beginning.
04Do you come on site or work remotely?
Both. Most problems are fixed remotely, which is usually faster for you. When it needs hands, like a new workstation, a network fault or an office move, I come on site across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
05How is managed IT priced?
As a flat monthly fee, sized to how many people and devices I look after and agreed in writing before I start. Projects outside day-to-day support, like a migration or a cabling job, are quoted separately.
06We already have an IT person. Can you work alongside them?
Yes. Some businesses want me to take the helpdesk so their IT person can focus on projects. Others want me covering backups, patching and security in the background. Either way, who handles what is agreed and written down.
07What happens when we switch to you?
I start by finding out what you have: devices, accounts, software, licences, backups and who has admin access to what. Then I secure the admin accounts, check that the backups actually restore, bring patching up to date and write it all down. If you're leaving another provider, I handle the handover with them.
08Are we too small for managed IT?
Probably not. Managed IT is for businesses that don't have an IT department, whether that's a handful of people in one office or a team spread across a few sites. If you have staff and computers, someone has to look after them.
Prefer to write it down?

Tell me what’s going wrong

How many people, where you are, and what’s been breaking. If something is down right now, call. Otherwise I’ll come back with a time to talk, or you can book a free IT assessment directly.

I reply the same business day. Your details are only used to get back to you about IT support. Privacy policy
