Custom software and application development in BC
Built by JFI. Supported by JFI. You deal with us directly.
Custom web apps, client portals, AI tools and integrations for businesses across the Lower Mainland. The company you scope it with is the company that builds it, and the one you call after launch when it needs a change.

The company that builds your software should be the one you call about it.
Custom software isn’t finished at launch. People start using it, the business changes, a connected system updates its API, and someone has to keep it working. That’s where a lot of custom projects go wrong: whoever built it has moved on, or the agency that sold it hands you to a support queue that has never seen the code.
JFI works the other way. You deal with JFI directly from the first scoping call, through the build, and for as long as you want support afterwards. Nobody in the middle relaying messages, and nothing lost in a handover.
How the options usually compare.
Every route can work. The difference shows up after launch, when something needs fixing and you need to know who to call.
| Question | Freelancer | Agency | JFI |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who you talk to | The developer, directly | Usually sales, then a project manager | JFI, directly, from the first call |
| Who fixes it a year later | Depends on whether they’re still available | Often a separate support desk or retainer | JFI, the company that built it |
| Price for version one | Often hourly | Varies | Fixed, agreed in writing |
| The rest of your IT | Usually not covered | Usually not covered | Can be, from the same company |
| Who owns the code | Check the contract | Check the contract | You do, with documentation |
General patterns, not a rule. Plenty of freelancers and agencies do excellent work. Whoever you talk to, ask these same questions before you sign.
Custom applications for the work off-the-shelf products don’t fit.
Most projects start with one process that eats hours every week. Each of these has its own page with examples and common questions.
Replace spreadsheets with an app
The shared spreadsheet everyone is afraid to touch, rebuilt as a proper tool with logins, history and forms.

The company that scopes and builds your software is the one you call when it needs a change or something stops working. No sales handoff, no account manager in the middle, no support desk that has never seen the code.
- 01
One point of contact, start to finish
The conversation that starts in discovery carries on through the build and after launch. You don’t re-explain your business to a project manager, then a developer, then a support desk.
- 02
Support from the company that wrote the code
When something needs fixing or changing, it comes back to JFI, which built it and wrote the documentation, not to a third party learning your system on your time.
- 03
Changes as the business changes
New fields, a new report, another integration. Small changes and bigger next stages are scoped and agreed with you before work starts.
- 04
Next to the rest of your IT
If JFI also looks after your IT, your software sits inside the same support: the same number to call and a first response the same business day.
Not locked in, either: you own the code, the data and the documentation. How JFI builds and supports custom software.
From the first call to the years after launch.
1. A free scoping call
What the process is today, who uses it and what keeps going wrong. If an off-the-shelf product already does the job, we’ll say so. It’s cheaper, and someone else maintains it.
2. A written proposal with a fixed price
When building is the right call, you get a proposal that says what version one will do, what it won’t, what it runs on and what it costs. The price doesn’t move unless the scope does. See how pricing works.
3. Working software early, in stages
A new app usually has a first usable version in four to eight weeks. You see it working as it comes together, with regular demos, so feedback goes in while it’s still cheap to change.
4. Launch and training
Your existing data comes across, the people using it are trained, and the documentation is handed over. You own the source code, the data and the accounts it runs on.
5. Support from the company that built it
JFI can host it, keep it updated, fix what breaks and make changes as the business changes. It’s optional: because you own everything, you can also take it in-house or to someone else.
